Borsari 36 Restaurant can be found located inside the Palazzo Victoria hotel, Verona. This restaurant pushes the boundaries, in the sense that it confirms the notion that you should never judge a book by its cover...
Slightly casual, and intimate inside, this restaurant is not what one might expect to find inside a five-star hotel. The restaurants main selling point is the open plan kitchen, into which you can look and watch their team of chefs prepare your dinner. I was a little apprehensive upon entering this restaurant, and wasn’t entirely sure as to what I should expect. However, we were more than pleasantly surprised...
“Remember, you mustn't judge a book by its cover!”
To start, we enjoyed the fish of the day crudités, which included tuna, sea bass and prawns, as well as the ‘Gnudi’ pasta with ricotta and spinach in a rich tomato sauce with Monte Veronese cheese. The dishes were simply beautiful, with each ingredient freshly prepared from start to finish - we were very impressed, and a little taken aback!
For our main courses, we then moved on to sample the organic ‘Kaiserin’ sliced beef with grilled vegetables, and the organic beef fillet with béarnaise sauce and baby spinach. The meat was melt-in-the-mouth, and expertly prepared. Not only that, but it was also wonderfully present.
We simply could not pass up dessert, and thoroughly enjoyed the liquorice cheesecake, and the tiramisu ‘their way’- made with filo pastry. Again, the dishes were beautiful - light, yet rich, and perfectly indulgent; the perfect end to a delicious meal.
We left the restaurant extremely satisfied, stopping only to catch a glimpse of the original building foundations through the circular glass areas in the flooring. We were definitely impressed, and would recommend Borsari 36. Remember, you mustn't judge a book by its cover!
