Gilpin Hotel is a Relais & Châteaux hotel situated in the Lake District with two luxury country houses. It’s a family run hotel, and there is a very welcoming, personable feel when staying there. Every effort was put in to ensure we had the best possible stay.

The hotel is set back from the lake, which gives you a more secluded feel and distances you from the tourist activity in the Lake District. It’s a pleasant surprise when you first see the hotel, a large Georgian country house. It was built in 1901 and has been refurbished over the years.

The building retains it's original Georgian charm whilst having a modern and aesthetically pleasing interior design, combining the best of the historic values with tasteful a modern outfit.

“It comes highly recommended by us, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy a stay there.”

We experienced a junior suite, which is attached to the main house. The wing is single storey, so there are no other patrons staying in rooms attached, ensuring a peaceful stay. We had beautiful views over the gardens, an ideal place to take a stroll and enjoy the fresh air. We could also see alpacas grazing and running around too from our suite.

We visited during the festive period, and the hotel captured the festive spirit perfectly. They had some wonderful Christmas decorations, meticulously arranged and presented throughout the whole hotel, a spectacular Christmas tree on our patio, and even in our suite.

The hotel offers a wonderful afternoon tea, and a restaurant offering a range of delicious dishes. There are plenty of things to do in the area surrounding the hotel, but staying within the grounds of the hotel is just as satisfying.

We had a wonderful stay at Gilpin House, the staff were friendly and very helpful. It was a beautiful find, and it comes highly recommended by us. We’re sure you’ll enjoy a stay there.
