The restaurant at The Townhouse can be found in Stratford-upon-Avon. The restaurant itself has a gastro pub feel, with modern, colourful interiors complimented by nods to the building’s medieval history. We recently visited this restaurant when we were staying at the hotel, and we’re very pleased we did. It was clear from our experience that the kitchen certainly knows what they are doing. Each dish was very well presented.
When we arrived we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. We decided to begin our evening with a couple of pre-dinner drinks, so I chose the Silent Pool gin and tonic, which was lovely. The bar boasts a rather impressive gin selection, which is certainly well worth exploring. My partner opted for a simple yet elegant glass of the Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée.
For our starters, I chose the buffalo mozzarella which was served served with honey and balsamic figs and prosciutto ham. This dish ticked all the boxes for me; the buffalo mozzarella was creamy and delicious, with the sweetness of the honey, balsamic and fig flavours balanced perfectly by the saltiness of the prosciutto. My partner chose the thyme marinated beetroot which was served with whipped goats’ cheese, orange poached pear and candied walnuts.
“You can expect great food and service with a smile.”
For our main courses, I chose the oven roasted duck breast which was served with fondant potato, carvelo nero and a blackberry and redcurrant jus. My partner chose the slow braised lamb Henry which was served with celeriac mash, roasted carrot and shallots with a rosemary jus. We also added sides of savoy cabbage and smoked bacon, and creamed potato. These dishes were wonderful. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection and our side choices completed our feast perfectly.
To accompany our meal, we chose a bottle of the 2012 Chateau Beaumont, Haut-Medoc, France, which was a fruity wine full of red and black fruits and a hint of spice. It worked delightfully with our menu choices, and went down very easily indeed.
Our meal at The Townhouse was faultless, and we certainly recommend that you visit should you be in the local area. You can expect great food and service with a smile.
