Situated on Piccadilly, The Athenaeum boasts a great central location; just a short walk to Park Lane one way and a short walk to the West End the other way. This privately owned hotel has a wealth of star-studded history. In fact, we were excited to learn that we were following in the footsteps of many a Hollywood star, including Steven Spielberg, Marlon Brando, Harrison Ford and Liza Minelli, to name but a few previous guests!

We were impressed upon entering our suite, The Green Park Suite. Simply, it spoke of classic sophistication. Our attention was drawn to the bed, which is a modern take on a four-poster with the frame made from clear Perspex. Alongside which sat glass fronted draws and wardrobes and mini bars; creating a real sense of design. With our floor to ceiling windows open we had London breathing inside our room. Our suite offered a fully stocked complimentary mini bar, although it would probably be more appropriately described as a small fridge/freezer, as even more notable than the fridged goods were the complimentary Ben & jerry's ice creams in the freezer! We also had a Nespresso machine with around 20 varieties to choose from, which was certainly a luxury bonus.

"Simply, it spoke of classic sophistication."

Style and design are in abundance throughout the hotel, as both around our suite and the hotel we found a wealth of London related art pieces. The website describes the art as 'bang up to date, creative and terribly English', which we could not put any better ourselves. Martin Hulbert of the well-reknowned Fox Linton Associates interior designers is responsible for the tweeds, velvets and eclectic art throughout the hotel, which reflects the hotel's history with the British film industry. There's something to see around every corner, so be sure to explore.

Aside from the art, another key focal point of the hotel is the Vertical Garden – a wall of garden stretching up the side of The Athenaeum. This initiative was started by Patric Blanc whos aim is to transform concrete walls into places of beautiful biodiversity. His work is visable world wide; in Bangcock and Paris, New York and Tokyo, with The Athenaeum being his debut UK canvas.

Being so close to some of London's most exciting locations means there's so much to do whilst staying at The Athenaeum. However, if you're looking to relax, then you need look no further than the hotel's spa. Recently renovated, the spa's relaxation area provides the perfect setting for time out; and if it's stress relief you're after, why not try one of their specialist REN or Elemis treatments to really treat yourself? Gym bunnies certainly wont be disappointed with the excellent sized gym the hotel has to offer either, and the sauna as well as the two indoor wooden hot tubs are perfect for relaxing those muscles. It’s a must visit during your stay.

If you're unsure where to lay your head in London and fancy something a little different then The Athenaeum should most definitely be on your short list.
