Marketed, as London’s most romantic restaurant, Clos Maggiore, Covent Garden, is no fraud. It’s quite obvious from the outset that this is one of the most romantic spots in the capital, however, you don’t just have to take our word for it; amongst many accolades, Clos Maggiore has been awarded London’s Most Romantic Restaurant by Harden’s Guide 2014, Most Romantic in the UK by Toptable 2013 and “Sexiest Restaurant” in the UK by The Times 2012. And we can see why...

During our visit, we were fortunate enough to be seated at one of the seven most romantic tables in this subtly located, roadside restaurant. Surrounded by dry wall plants that cover the walls and ceiling, and with the moonlight shining through, this really is a special setting. Crisp white linen and comfortable chairs set the tone for an evening of pure indulgence. This restaurant is out to impress.

“Impressive, yet relaxed, this restaurant promises you a special evening.”

And impress they do, and not only with the décor - the staff were very friendly, and we were particularly taken by the charismatic sommelier, and thus decided to take them up on their wine pairing option for our meal.

We started with the lobster, scallop and king prawn tortellini with roasted Scottish langoustine and leek fondue, which was paired with a 2012 Australian Riesling; and the Sicilian aubergine and raisin caponata, served with fresh burrata, paired with a 2012 French Pinot Gris. The food was simply exquisite, and, as expected, the wines complimented the dishes perfectly.

For our main courses, we opted for the sea bass, of which the menu informed us had been caught off the Scottish Cost by a fishing boat named ‘The Lapwing’ - the sea bass was served with broccoli and brown shrimp, and was paired with a 2011 French Burgundy. For our second dish, we chose to try the oven-roasted fillet of venison from The Royal Windsor Estate, which came served with crushed swede and roasted onion squash, and a green peppercorn sauce. The venison was paired with a glass of Mas de Daumas Gassac 2011, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault, France. As side dishes, we chose the Vichy carrots and the wilted spinach.

Each dish was beautiful, and we were very impressed by the flavour combinations. Clos Maggiore is simply a stunning restaurant, and if you’re looking for a romantic meal, we’ve found you just the place. Impressive, yet relaxed, this restaurant promises you a special evening. We’re already planning our second visit to Clos Maggiore. It certainly makes for a wonderful experience.
