The Chequers can be found located in the charming town of Marlow in Buckinghamshire, which is just shy of an hours’ drive from London. This pub is part of the Brakspear group of pubs and hotels. Although the pub has been here for many years - reportedly having been a pub since the the 16th century - the bedrooms are a recent addition and have just been completely re-designed and finished to a high standard, so we were excited to discover exactly what was on offer here.

With just nine rooms, the boutique feel is ever present throughout the Chequers, adding to the personal experience you can expect at this hotel. Our bedroom was intimate but well designed to make the most of the space available. We had views over Marlow’s high street, which allowed us to do some people watching, and take in in the hustle and bustle of the local area.

Our bathroom was immaculate and came complete with a large walk-in shower and a beautiful oversized wash basin. The bedroom offered a small desk, as well as a coffee machine and complimentary biscuits - much to our delight. The bed was very comfortable and provided a great night’s sleep.

“If you're looking for a quiet country pub escape, it doesn't get much more picturesque than this.”

The Chequers is also home to the Churchill Tap - the main pub itself along with the Dining Room restaurant. It's worth nothing that the hotel itself does not have a car park, but there is a car park less than a few minutes away making it a very minor inconvenience, if any at all.

Marlow is well worth a walk around, especially on a sunny day. A walk down to the River Thames is most enjoyable, and is the perfect way to work up an appetite before dinner.

We were very impressed with our visit to the Chequers. The staff were extremely pleasant and the room was more than adequate. If you're looking for a quiet country pub escape, it doesn't get much more picturesque than this. We would certainly return and would very much like to explore more of what the local area has to offer.
