During our stay at the Chequers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, we decided to dine in their Dining Room, which is in keeping with the charming English pub interiors found throughout the building. The interiors are wonderfully British and offer the epitome of exactly what a pub restaurant should be. The restaurant is authentic and extremely tastefully designed.

We were greeted as old friends as we entered the Dining Room and were shown to our charming table. We made our menu choices and settled in for a comfortable evening of culinary delights.

It wasn't too long to wait until we were presented with our first course - baked Camembert for two, served with crusty bread. This was a delicious and indulgent start to our meal, which left us in great anticipation of our main courses.

“We were made extremely comfortable throughout the evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food offering.”

For our main courses, we also shared the 16oz Chateaubriand, which was 100 day-aged Australian grain-fed beef, served with triple cooked chips, vine tomatoes, rocket, garlic butter and chimichurri sauce. This dish came from the Butcher’s Block section of the menu, which in reality is where all the meat is displayed for you to select your very own cut before it is prepared and cooked for you. The meat itself was simply superb. It was of the high quality and the entire dish was perfectly executed. As an additional side dish, we added the green beens, which complimented our meal perfectly.

Unfortunately, having over-indulged on our previous courses, we didn't have any room left for dessert. However, this gives us the perfect excuse to return, as we noted our neighbouring tables certainly enjoying theirs and we would definitely like to sample a couple for ourselves.

The service at the restaurant was both friendly and prompt, and we felt very well looked after. We were made extremely comfortable throughout the evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food offering. We would highly recommend you stop by should you be in the local area, or if you're looking for an excellent foodie destination. We’re certainly looking forward to returning to the Chequers in the future.
