La Gaudina can be found inside the main hotel building of the Terre Blanche resort. This restaurant offers casual dining, with pleasing interiors and comfortable chairs. We would say that the quality of the food significantly surpasses the environment, which unfortunately was overrun with children during our visit - being a family friendly resort.
However, as the evening progressed the children gradually disappeared and we were able to fully enjoy the experience.
“Our starters were superb and perfectly presented.”
Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. We ordered a bottle of 2011 Domaine Le Champs de Barbier, Essai Libre - which we sipped on whilst choosing from the menu.
To start, we opted for the homemade pate in a pastry crust, served with foie gra and Chantilly cream with green pepper; and the preserved duck foie greas with salt and pepper and fresh country bread. Our starters were superb - delicate and rich flavours, perfectly presented.
For our main courses, we chose the sea bass fillet with black rice, which was cooked as a risotto; as well as the chicken breast fillet with a Comte cheese crust and lightly creamed morels in Jura wine. Again, the flavour combinations were outstanding.
We passed on dessert, as the first two courses had left us full and satisfied.
The children aside, we did have a very enjoyable experience at La Gaudina, and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area. If you’re looking for a family friendly restaurant, or if you just appreciate good food in a relaxed setting, then this would be a good restaurant choice. Be sure to check out the local wines.
