Dei Lorena Restaurant, located on the top floor of the Bagni di Pisa hotel, is a far cry from the staff quarters it once was when the building was a palace. The restaurant is a colourful space full of yellow and terracotta hues.
We actually felt the decor was a little garish for us, and there were a one or two too many babies for our liking. However, we were seated in a quiet part of the restaurant, and neither of those things detracted from our experience.
We were very well looked after from start to finish, and lucked in with our waiter, who had a clear passion for his job. He decanted our wine with flair, and kept us entertained throughout. Before deciding on our menu choices, we were advised to try their local speciality of prosciutto, which was most enjoyable!
“Both the food and the experience were exceptional.”
For our starters, we opted for the risotto with yellow pumpkin, rosemary and ewe’s cheese mousse; and the pici pasta, with a special Tuscan vegetable ragout. The flavours were incredible; so fresh and authentic – I can assure you, these dishes did not last long!
For our main courses, we both opted for the fillet of beef with Szechuan sauce, pepper and potato puree flavoured with herbs. The meat was incredibly cooked and melted in the mouth – it is evident that this restaurant boasts a team of chefs who are as talented as they are passionate about their food offering.
For dessert, we thoroughly enjoyed the fruit salad of mango, strawberries, white melon, passion fruit, pink grapefruit, and pineapple, served with coconut sorbet, as well as the tiramisu with glazed chocolate, which came in the form of a chocolate dome filled with a subtle, yet delicious, tiramisu flavoured mousse.
Both the food and the experience were exceptional, and for that reason, we strongly advise this restaurant features on your must visit in Pisa list.
