The Lazy Cow in Warwick city centre is home to the Warwickshire Premier Ale & Steakhouse. From the outside it looks like a typical city pub, but it’s much more than that. The venue has a hotel and restaurant, both of which are of a very good standard.

It’s a busy place, which is always a good sign. It got very busy while we dined there, but it didn’t seem to affect service, which is another positive. The steakhouse has a busy bar, with the restaurant sitting alongside, so we began with a drink while we waited to be seated.

The décor is typical pub, lots of wood, mirrors, good lighting and buzzing conversation. The atmosphere was relaxed and the smiling staff were quick to set us at ease. The highlight of the interior had to be the milk bottle chandelier, it was modern art done well in our opinion and gave off an excellent quality of light.

The menu is predominantly steak-based, but also includes Sushi, fish, salads and some decent vegetarian options. It is simple, but concentrates on the core offering, which is meat, with complementary dishes. It shows good focus and a desire to concentrate on what they are good at.

“The Lazy Cow was fresh, perfectly prepared and really delivered.”

Once seated, we elected for a roast dinner instead of a steak. There are days where nothing else but a good piece of beef and some well cooked vegetables will do. This was one of those. We ordered roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with side dishes of sugar snap peas, carrot and swede and leeks with mushrooms.

The roast sirloin of beef was delicious. It was tender, full of flavour light pink in the middle and satisfied our craving perfectly. It was served with roast potatoes, gravy, peas and carrots, all of which were lovely. The side orders were just as nice, served in little bowls. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared and really delivered.

We managed dessert too, which was nice. We decided to try the novel dessert shots to see what they were like. These were tiny desserts served in shot glasses that gave a mouthful or two of sweetness to round off the meal. We had strawberry cheesecake and honeycomb, both of which were delicious.

Our meal at The Lazy Cow was delicious. The service was good, the food amazing and we would certainly come here again.
