Maremmana restaurant can be found located at the wonderful hotel and wine resort of Conti di San Bonifacio in Tuscany, Italy. Embodying everything Italian, this restaurant is a true testament to the Tuscan region, and having visited before, we were certainly excited to return.

Maremmana boasts wonderful views over the hotel’s estate, which includes their own winery as well as an olive grove. This setting offers a special atmosphere that lends itself well to a hearty Italian meal, and we were very excited for the evening ahead. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and shown to our table, which was wonderfully presented.

The restaurant itself offers an intimate dining space, which works to the favour of its diners, as you can expect to be very well looked after here. Knowing as we did that the cuisine is nothing short of impressive, we were excited for our culinary experience to begin. Whilst we perused the menu, we decided to indulge in an aperitif. I chose a classic, yet expertly made, Negroni, which saw a mix of one part gin, one part vermouth rosso, and one part Campari, garnished with orange peel. My partner went for one of their Old Fashioned cocktails, which saw a mix of bourbon, Angostura bitters and one sugar cube, topped with soda.

“Embodying everything Italian, this restaurant is a true testament to the Tuscany region.”

For our first course, I went for the organic risotto, which was served with tomatoes, lime and a mint froth. The flavours were wonderfully fresh, and the textures of this dish were exceptionally well balanced, with the risotto rice being cooked slightly al dente. My partner decided on the paccheri pasta which was served with chef’s truffle flavoured veal ragu. This was a real highlight dish, full of rich flavours and earthy undertones.

For our main courses, I went for the local Tuscan pork fillet served with pureed apricots, purple carrots and roasted onions. My partner opted for the fifteen-hour slow cooked wild boar, that was hunted from their estate forests. These dishes were exquisite and authentically Tuscan, we couldn’t have asked for more. To accompany our meal, of course we had to sample a wine from the hotel’s own winery, so we went for the Sustinet IGT. 100% Syrah. This was a decadent wine with spicy fruit on the palate and an aromatic finish. We were most impressed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Maremmana and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tuscany. We will certainly be looking to return.
