Hotel du Vin Brasserie in Tunbridge Wells is situated inside the beautiful Grade II listed sandstone hotel that dates back to 1762. The building stands proud in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, better known as The Garden of England, and we were suitably impressed upon arrival.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is that of casual dining, with good French cuisine. The menu is fairly simple, but offers a good selection of classic dishes.

We were shown to our table by a friendly host, and ordered a bottle of the Argentinian Malbec to accompany our meal.

“The staff are friendly and the food is good.”

For our starter we opted for the pan seared scallops with artichoke and pistachio puree and a pancetta vinaigrette; and the prawn and crayfish cocktail with crisp lettuce and cocktail sauce, served with brown bread and butter.

For our main courses, we chose the fillet and the rump steak, with sides of frites, mashed potato and wilted spinach. It was cooked very nicely and there were a lot of good flavours in the food, particularly in the starters.

The bar area is also a good space and fully stocked, and is the perfect place to have a nightcap if you’re residing at the hotel.

We really enjoyed our evening and felt we truly relaxed throughout the meal. The hotel itself boasts beautiful grounds, and I imagine it would be a great restaurant at which to have a spot of lunch after a country walk. The staff are friendly and the food is good.

It’s also worth noting that the brasserie offers a private dining option, which is a great idea for a special event or as a venue in which to host a dinner party.

We would recommend the Hotel du Vin Brasserie in Tunbridge Wells as a great place to eat in the countryside. It’s worth checking out if you’re in the area.
