The Gantry Restaurant is located inside the Pier One Hotel in Sydney Harbour. It sits harbour side with some of the most beautiful views across the waterfront. The sunset views are stunning, and makes for an ideal complement to alfresco dining.

We stared the evening with a couple of cocktails. First up was the ‘Lady on the Pier’, made with Aylesbury Duck Vodka, shaken with Pink Grapefruit, Elderflower Liqueur and Lemon Myrtle. An interesting vodka based cocktail with floral and citrus notes. We also ordered a cocktail named ‘Storm Raiders’, mixed with Gosling’s Dark Rum, Lime and their house made Binger Beer. This was surprisingly spicy, but delicious.

To begin we ordered Spanner Crab served with Pear, Bergamot, EH Chickweed, and Red Vein Sorrel, we thought it was only appropriate to sample some seafood, and indeed it was superb. We also ordered a P.O.S.H. Salad, cleverly named after the chosen ingredients of Quinoa, Artichoke, Orange, Pomegranate, and Hazelnut. A nice blend of flavours, and a very palatable salad.

“We had a very enjoyable evening dining on the waterfront.”

For our main course we shared a Mirrool Creek Lamb Shoulder, served with Baharat, Cous Cous, and slow cooked for 24 hours. We ordered sides of Duck Fat Roasted Chats and Beetroot Homefries. I have to say, the Lamb Shoulder was divine. The dish was superb.

We had a bottle of Penley Estate Phoenix Cabernet, Coonawarra, SA, 2011 throughout the evening. It’s a nice simple balanced wine with fruit notes and complemented the food just right, and rounded off a very enjoyable evening dining on the waterfront.
