Whilst staying at The Ragged Cot in Minchinhampton we decided to visit their restaurant. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor option covering one of the garden areas. It’s a family friendly pub with a lots of large family-style tables, it’s a great location for gastropub style food, so expect to see burgers, fish and chips, etc, it’s a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

To begin our evening I started by ordering the Garden Pea, Mint and Smoked Bacon Soup. A delicious soup, The Ragged Cot source a lot of their ingredients from local farmers and businesses and the flavors of the dishes reflect this. My partner ordered the Goat’s Cheese Mousse, with a red onion jam and affilla cress. The goat’s cheese was delicious, this was a great starter for the evening.

“The quintessential English countryside pub experience.”

For main course I ordered the House Beef Burger, with tomato chutney, back bacon, and cheddar in a brioche bun, with slaw and house chips on the side. The burger was a fine example of what to expect from a pub menu, I can’t fault this dish and the chips were a welcome side accompaniment. My partner ordered the Roast Sirloin of English Beef, with a Yorkshire pudding, also served with the most delicious roast potatoes, carrots, and cauliflower. The sirloin was a superb cut, perfectly cooked and presented, the dish had a very ‘homely’ feel to it and was most enjoyable.

Moving on to dessert I opted for the Baked Rice Pudding, with a summer berry compote. I always enjoy rice pudding and this didn’t disappoint. My partner ordered the Traditional Syrup Sponge Pudding, with vanilla bean ice cream. Rich and sweet as one would expect, a fitting end to an enjoyable evening of fine food.

Our chosen wine for the evening was a bottle of 2014, Victor Berard, Cotes du Rhone, Bourgogne, France. A warm and spicy French wine with a peppery taste, perfect with meat dishes and a wine we’d happily order again.

The Ragged Cot delivers the quintessential English countryside pub experience with great food, great scenery, and fresh countryside air. A must visit if you’re in the Cotswolds.
