The St Andrews Bar & Grill can be found located at the fabulous golfing resort of Fairford St Andrews in Scotland. The Bar & Grill is the signature restaurant of the hotel and is actually located outside of the hotel itself; instead on a clifftop within the stunning grounds of the resort, which offers spectacular views over the stunning North Sea coastline. Given its location, there really isn’t a bad seat in this restaurant. With floor to ceiling windows offering unspoilt 360 degree views, this restaurant is special from the moment you walk in.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived and were shown immediately to our table by a friendly member of the team. To begin our evening, I opted for a classic, but expertly prepared Negroni and my partner chose a tequila and tonic. The drinks went down nicely as we pondered over the menu and tempting seafood bar.

To begin our meal, my partner chose the West Coast langoustines that came served with cocktail sauce as well as sauce Américaine. The langoustines were perfectly prepared and only their sweet flavour was only enhanced by the accompanying sauces. I chose the Barbary duck breast that came served with salsify purée, radicchio, pickled grapes and thyme jus. The flavours were exceptional alongside the tender duck breast, with the pickled grapes being a particular highlight.

The views were incredible and the service was on point throughout the evening.

For our main courses, I decided on the 200g fillet steak, served with hand cut chips, grilled cherry vine tomatoes and dressed watercress. I also added the pepper sauce, along with the tempting half St Andrews Bay grilled lobster, which came served with garlic and herb butter. Both the steak and the lobster were excellent, perfectly cooked to bring out their wonderfully different, yet fantastically complimentary flavours.

My partner also chose the fillet steak, also with hand cut chips, grilled cherry vine tomatoes and dressed watercress, but with the addition of the Maître d’hôtel butter and the three tiger prawns served with garlic butter. Again, the food was exceptional.

We decided to pass on dessert, but we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food was so fresh, wonderfully presented and perfectly prepared and knowing how locally sourced all the seafood and meat is made the experience that little bit more enjoyable. We would certainly return to the St Andrews Bar & Grill, which although a part of the wider resort, is absolutely a location in its own right. The views were incredible and the service was on point throughout the evening. We simply cannot wait to return.
