Shang Palace can be found located inside the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. Having visited Shang Palace in Paris, we were excited to discover this particular restaurant. Serving Cantonese cuisine in sophisticated surroundings echoing the beauty found inside the Shangri-La Hotel, we were everything but disappointed from the moment we arrived.
We were greeted warmly upon arrival and soon shown to our table. To begin our evening, we decided on two glasses of the Veuve Clicquot Rosé, which went down very nicely indeed as we made our menu choices.
For our first course, we chose to sample the peking duck for two, which comes served in two stages. The first stage sees sliced peking duck skin with pancakes, which is sliced and served at your table. The second stage consists of wok-fried Peking duck fillet with a sweet sauce, sesame and lettuce wraps. This was beautifully presented, with lots of wonderful flavours and a little theatrics in the mix. This certainly left us in great anticipation as to what else was to come during the evening.
“If you’re in Singapore then Shang Palace should be on your list of places to eat.”
For our main course, we chose the sweet and sour pork served with mango and peppers, as well as the pan-fried Australian beef fillet, which was served with a beautiful black pepper sauce. We also added a side of fried rice with assorted egg yolk and asparagus. I have to say, this rice dish is a must try. It came beautifully presented and garnished, as expected, and complimented our meal perfectly.
Our wine choice to accompany our meal saw the 2014, Luce La Vite Lucente Toscana IGT, Italy; which proved to be an excellent choice of wine, boasting a warm palate with a long finish.
For dessert, we opted for the cream of avocado, which came served with chocolate ice cream, as well as the chilled lemon ice cream served with mango puree. These dishes were both light and delicious and served as the perfect end to what had been a lovely evening.
As we were with the Paris restaurant, we were highly impressed by Shang Palace, Singapore. This restaurant does everything impeccably. The service was prompt and friendly and we were very well looked after. If you’re in Singapore then Shang Palace should be on your list of places to eat.
