Mains of Taymouth is a country estate and golf course that can be found located near to the conservation village of Kenmore and stunning Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire, Scotland. Mains of Taymouth offer the most wonderfully relaxing breaks in their luxury self-catering properties that are scattered around their beautiful estate. With 160 acres to work with, Mains of Taymouth really does have it all and we were delighted to have the opportunity to stay there.

The estate itself can be found in Rob Roy and Cambell country, bordered by the Tay Forest Park and also the River Tay. Originally built in the 19th century, Mains of Taymouth actually occupies the former home farm for Taymouth Castle. The self-catering properties can be found located throughout the courtyard, as well as throughout the wider estate, with mews houses occupying the Castle Gardens as well as the Brudaires houses and Gallops apartments.

During our stay, we experienced The Farmhouse, which sleeps up to 12 people in total. This is a stunning property and we were taken aback when we first saw it. The privacy is notable, with The Farmhouse being a detached conversion complete with six en-suite bedrooms split across two levels.

In the garden of The Farmhouse you will find a seating area that includes a gas barbecue, perfect for an afternoon of dining and entertaining. The garden is also home to a wonderful hot tub and sauna cabin that offers that extra level of luxury and relaxation; or for those looking for more fun, there is a summer house that boasts a games table for pool, air hockey, table tennis or table football.

“We can’t fault it as the perfect place to escape city life, and we simply cannot wait to return.”

On the ground level of The Farmhouse there is a well-appointed kitchen, complete with a homely AGA and an open plan lounge and dining area. In the lounge area there is also a beautiful wood burning stove that keeps everything warm in the winter time, although with underfloor heating you’ll be hard pushed to need it much. There is also a useful utility room on the ground level that includes a washing machine and tumble dryer that are well needed after muddy walks and plenty of exploring. As well as the open plan lounge area, the ground floor is also home to a “snug” room that has plenty of games to keep children and adults alike entertained. Lastly, there are two king sized bedrooms occupying this floor, one is a large king bedroom that comes complete with both a bath and a shower; and the other offers its own entrance and en-suite shower room.

On the first floor there is a stunning master bedroom with an en-suite wet room and separate bath as well as a south facing balcony. This room has been wonderfully designed and is a really special space. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor that can be made up as super king rooms, or twins, depending on what the party would prefer. Both these rooms offer en-suite showers also.

Mains of Taymouth boasts a wealth of activities and other things to do to keep everyone occupied and happy during their stay. Of course each of the properties has its own kitchen, however there is a restaurant on site that serves food and drinks, as well as a deli shop should you need to stock up on a few essentials. Mains of Taymouth also has access to Kenmore Golf Club, which is a stunning course, and there are riding stables and a boat center for those looking for other outdoor activities, including fishing. With beautiful surrounding scenery, we would also highly recommend a good walk and a pint at the bar.

We were most impressed with our stay at Mains of Taymouth. With properties that are perfect for any group size, we can highly recommend it as a great destination that truly does cater for all, and they’re even dog friendly. We can’t fault it as the perfect place to escape city life, and we simply cannot wait to return.
