A Mexican restaurant located inside The Sagauro Hotel in Palm Springs. Perfect place to grab a few cocktails and light snacks. It’s a small space, but if you manage to find a nice table in a corner, you’ll have a fun experience. As you would expect from a Mexican restaurant, they have an impressive selection of Tequila.

Browsing the cocktail menu we opted to order a couple of their Traditional Margaritas options. We sampled an ‘El Jefe’, a simple but delicious cocktail made with Don Julio Repasado, Comnier, and Fresh Lime. As well as a ‘Paloma’, mixed with Sino Silver, Grapefruit Soda, Fresh Lime and a pinch of Salt.

We then ordered a couple of their Fresh Fruit Margaritas where you get to add a fruit of your choosing. We started with a ‘Cantaina’, made with Sino Silver, Orange Liquor, Fresh Lime and we chose Strawberry as the fruite. We then decided to have another ‘El Jefe’, this time adding some Watermelon, making it even more refreshing.

“The cocktails were the highlight of the evening.”

We ordered some shared entradas. Guacamole, made with Avocado, Jalapeno, Cotija Cheese, and House Made Tortilla Chips. We enjoyed this simple rewarding dish. We also ordered Ignacio Nachos, with Black Beans, Tomato, Queso Mixto, Jalapeno, Chile de Arbol and Radish. As well as Esquites, with Sweet Corn, Queso Fresco and Chipotle. Classic Mexican dishes and well executed.

We couldn’t leave without sampling the tacos. We ordered a Carne Asada, which is Grilled Skirt Steak, Refried Beans, Avocado, and Queso Fresco. It was a superb taco, can’t fault it. We also ordered a Pollo, a Chicken Taco with Chicken Ropa Vieja, Queso Fresco, Crema and Radish. Just as enjoyable, it’s evident the food is of a high standard at El Jeffe.

If it’s Mexican food you’re after, El Jeffe delivers, and delivers well. The cocktails were the highlight of the evening, a very enjoyable one.
