Ian Schrager’s latest creation Public Hotel in New York City is a stylish, sleek and visual achievement in the art of boutique accommodation. Located in the heart of the Lower East Side, Public Hotel situates itself in the vibrant capital of Manhattans cool kid district, walking distance from two subway stations, the New Museum and only a two mile walk from the iconic Empire State Building. If location isn’t attractive enough the hotel boasts 367 rooms all expertly designed by Schrager’s frequent collaborators Herzog & de Meuron.
During our stay we experienced the King Great View room and the name really does live up to expectation as you’re met with a breath-taking view of New York City in all it’s glory. The 220sqft room is a minimalist dream with floor to ceiling wood panelling and gloriously triple glazed windows that perfectly captures that ‘Great View’ but keeps the noisy city sounds at bay. The room comes with an outrageously comfortable king-size bed, complete with a 50 inch LED flat screen TV and an en-suite.
The room also offers a spacious dining/working area, complete with 10 easy-to reach USB and plug outlets as well as New York City’s fastest wireless internet, making this space truly versatile in nature. While minimalistic in design it is the attention to detail that makes this room a hipster haven and should not be overlooked. From the touch-controlled black out shade and sheer curtains to the custom designed lighting that allows you to adjust your settings from work appropriate lighting to a sultrier candle-lit mood makes for a stay in Public’s King Great View adaptable for any occasion without skimping on comfort, practicality and elevated luxury.

Public Hotel takes a holistic approach to accommodation to ensure your stay is one of comfort and then some. The King Great View room is accompanied by several perks such as in-room coffee set up available upon request – perfect for those working holidays and if you’re visiting during the Spring/Fall season like we were, complimentary Shinola bicycles equipped with helmets and locks to make sighting-seeing around the trendy Lower East Side more of a local vibe and less touristy. R32;R32;However, when you’re not lazing or working in the effortlessly cool and comfortable room, or immersing yourself in the plethora of hipster coffee shops at your disposal during your stay, Public Hotel offers in house dining options suitable for all.
Popular is the lovechild of two world renowned chefs Diego Munoz and Michelin star chef John Fraser who bring to life authentic, healthy and soulful peruvian food in a way that is cool, sophisticated and a little bit quirky where you can enjoy a meal in the vibrant, very ‘New York’ dining room or al fresco under the stars in the Bowery Garden. During our stay we also found the Cantina & Pisco bar the coolest way to spend cocktail hour, again the brainchild of chef Diego Munoz and it wouldn’t be the Lower East Side if the experience wasn’t complete with live DJ’s and Latin music after 10pm.
To experience Public Hotel is to authentically experience New York City like a cool kid, everything from the view of the most beautiful and striking city in the world to the location that places you right in the centre of everything trending, Public offers a versatile and unique experience with the comforts of home, away from home. A little off beat in the best way possible and could only be expected in the hipster heartland of Manhattan, our stay was so enjoyable we cannot wait to come back.
