An elegant Chinese restaurant consistently positioned among Melbourne’s finest, Flower Drum was a joy to experience. The dining room was huge with more than enough space to feel comfortable. The service was attentive, and the staff really understand the art of hospitality. We entered via an elevator and were taken back by the beautiful interiors. Its traditional Chinese food with a wide range of classic dishes, all well-executed and wonderfully presented.

We started with two glasses of Billecart Salmon as an aperitif. To begin we ordered Peking Duck, which was wrapped in Pancake and was served with Cucumber, Spring Onion and a delicious Plum Sauce. I have had my fair share of Peking Duck dishes before, and I have to say this was simply divine. My partner ordered King Prawns in XO Chilli. This dish was prepared with Steamed King Prawns, and served with XO Chilli and Conpoy on a Lotus Leaf. Another faultless dish.

“We had a wonderful experience from start to finish.”

For main course we ordered Snow Crab with Ginger and Spring Onion to share. They had a range of tempting side dishes and we decided on Yeung Chow Fried Rice with Prawns, BBQ Pork, Egg, Asparagus and Spring Onion. The presentation and the fresh, prominent flavours really made this the highlight of the evening. The Snow Crab was incredibly tender, if you like crab you’re going to be impressed with this dish.

We also enjoyed a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cockfighter’s Ghost, Coonawarra, 2008, An interesting wine with flavours of Blackcurrant, Vanilla and a subtle hint of Mint.

We couldn’t manage a dessert, but we ended our evening feeling incredibly satisfied with the dishes we experienced. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish and recommend Flower Drum should you be in Melbourne.
