We were recently staying at Battel Hall on the Leeds Castle Estate, and we decided to dine at the Castle View Restaurant, which as the name suggests, provides unrestricted views over Leeds Castle. If you haven’t yet visited Leeds Castle, you can take it from us that this really is quite a sight; especially during the evening when the castle is lit up and the sheer amount of history of the castle provides a palpable atmosphere. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly member of the team and shown to our table.

We browsed the menu as we took in the wonderful views and finally settled on our menu choices. The menu was simple yet inviting and we waited in great anticipation for our food to arrive. For my starter, I decided to go for the spiced falafels, which came served with pitta bread, coconut yoghurt and tahini. This was a great dish that was full of flavour, and a little different to the usual starter options. My partner opted for the venison meatballs, which were served with beans cassoulet and parmesan crust. This was a hearty and warming dish that set the evening off nicely.

“The dishes were simple yet delicious and the service was friendly and efficient.”

For our main courses, we both decided to go with the dry aged sirloin steak which were both served with triple cooked chips, grilled plum tomatoes and a field mushroom. We also added their peppercorn sauce to complete our choice, along with a side of their seasonal vegetables. The steaks were cooked perfectly to our liking and were full of flavour, the vegetables were also cooked well and make for a great addition to the dish.

For our wine choice, we went for the 2017 Tilia Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina. This is a great wine that is deep burgundy in colour with a palate of chocolate and cherry. It had a very smooth finish and made for a wonderful accompaniment to our meal. We were also impressed with the service throughout our evening, which was attentive yet unobtrusive.

Overall we were thoroughly impressed with our meal from start to finish. The dishes were simple yet delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. We would highly recommend Castle View Restaurant to anyone visiting the Leeds Castle Estate, even just for the views which are reason enough to visit.
