    The Broad Museum Review

    The Broad Museum Review

The Broad museum is a new museum situated in downtown LA. Opening in late 2015, we had the opportunity to visit the Broad shortly after its opening. There are some interesting features and art pieces to browse, this is a museum even the most causal museum fans can find something of interest.

It’s hard not to be impressed before you even step foot inside the Broad. The design of the building is striking. It’s been referred to as the ‘cheese grater’ by many, and it’s easy to see why. The design has a lot of angles, sharp edges, and cheese grater-style holes all over. The museum is one of the many offerings to the city by renowned philanthropist Eli Broad, hence it has been named after him.

“An absolute must if you’re visiting LA.”

The Broad specialises in showcasing modern art and the work of many highly publicised contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons. On our visit the most eagerly anticipated exhibit was Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Rooms. This is a much sought-after exhibit, many visitors had to queue for several hours just to experience it, but it’s well worth the wait. As the name suggests you experience a darkened mirrored room, along with an endless array of LED lights. Visitors can enter the room alone, or in pairs. You have just 45 seconds to enjoy the light show, but it’s a spectacle like nothing else you will ever experience.

In a city that’s packed with things to do and see, the Broad brings some fresh, interesting, and world-class exhibitions and activities to experience. I won’t ruin all the surprises of what’s inside, but I will say that it’s an absolute must if you’re visiting LA.
