Mrs Fish is a fairly new addition to the LA dining scene and it’s already making a lot of positive noise. It's located in the same building as Perch, and as you enter the building the first thing you notice is the huge ceiling mounted fish tank. The venue is huge and spread over a few floors. With the focal point being a large stage where various artists perform throughout the evening.
The interior is fun and vibrant, there is an artistic and free-spirit theme to the restaurant with local performers encouraged to perform there. The cocktails really are a must here, the staff really enjoy showing a great amount of passion for their craft. During our evening at Mrs Fish we watched a couple of different bands who rocked the roof off. We had a super night, in a super venue filled with innovation.
We were blown away by the cocktails. We started off with a 'Vanil Brasil', mixed with Stolichnaya Vanil, Simple Syrup, Lemon Juice, Passion Fruit Puree, Mint Leaf Garnish over Ice in a Martini Glass. The glass gave the drink a sophisticated feel, while the taste gave the drink a thumbs up from me. My partner had a 'Poolside Brass', which comprised of Greenall's Gin, Grapefruit Juice, Elderflower Cordial, Coconut Puree, and Champagne served in a Champagne Flute with a Mermaid Garnish. Another spectacularly presented drink in its own custom glass.
“….superb cocktails, a fun atmosphere, and delicious food.”
Next we had a 'Flaming Hetfield', named after the Metallica front man and packing a punch to match. It was mixed together with Sugar Cube, Simple Syrup, Angostura Bitters, Caramelized Orange, served in old fashioned glass with Ice and a Cherry.
Finally we had an 'El Camino', with Jimador Blanco, Pineapple Juice, Coconut Puree, Orange Juice serviced in a beer glass with dusted Nutmeg Garnish. Each and every cocktail was crafted like a piece of art, and certainly a must if you visit Mrs Fish.
Moving on to the food menu, we ordered the Beef Sliders, the dish came out with three Grilled 2oz Beef Sliders served on Brioche Buns with Roast Garlic Aioli, Caramelized Onions, Cheddar Cheese, Dill Pickles and Potato Crisp. This plate of sliders went down very well as we enjoyed a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, 2012. The garlic and onions gave the sliders plenty of flavour, and it was clear each one had been carefully hand prepped. We also had the Classic Crispy French Fries, perhaps not the finest French Fries we have experienced and didn’t really match the quality of the other offerings from Mrs Fish.
Mrs Fish brings together edgy entertainment, superb cocktails and a fun atmosphere. There isn’t much more to ask for while dining in Downtown LA, apart from the fries this gets a big thumbs up.
