The York and Albany Restaurant in London sits inside a nice hotel near Regent’s Park that offers Ramsay-inspired food in a relaxing setting.
This town house building is relaxed, well maintained and tastefully decorated. It’s comfortable, welcoming and a genuinely nice place to spend time. The cocktails aren’t bad either.
It’s an intimate space, with only a few dining tables. It makes you feel like you’re getting personal service and lends itself well to a nice dinner for two. The décor is light and modern, with velvet-effect furniture, wooden tables, no tablecloth and a polished service.
The highlight for us was the glass ceiling, allowing us to look up to the sky from our table. In the few moments we didn’t want to admire the food and the surroundings, it made for a nice effect.

We began with baked Queenie scallops with garlic and tarragon and roasted butternut squash. The scallops were a nicely balanced starter with just the right level of garlic and herbs. Scallops can be a hard ingredient to balance, but this tasted fresh, let the scallop flavour sing, while being complemented by the garlic, a good start.
The butternut squash was served with spinach and a lentil dressing. The squash was fresh, perfectly cooked, well-seasoned and presented nicely with the spinach and dressing. It was a nice, earthy dish that worked very well as a starter.
Mains were fish and lobster pie and gilled West Country rib eye steak. We also had sides of roasted garlic mash, tomato and red onion salad and chantaney carrots.
The pie was excellent, rich, creamy, fishy and nicely salted. It was hot, filling and tasted very fresh. The fish almost invisible until you bit into the pieces, that’s how fresh it was. The lobster was, of course, the star and worked well to elevate the pie into something very good indeed.
The West Country steak was served with green peppercorn sauce that added all the heat you needed to this excellent piece of meat. The steak was very nice and was cooked to perfection.
The York and Albany Restaurant offered good priced food that tastes great. The service is efficient, the surroundings relaxed and the experience is a good one. We would happily return.
