Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro sits inside The Levin Hotel in central London. It’s a basement venue with a busy, vibrant atmosphere and the ideal place for an evening meal.

It is a cool, trendy place without any of the elitist attitude. The staff are fast, efficient and most of all, friendly. The décor is light, modern and relaxed and there is no push to get you out the door once finished.

It’s an ideal place to spend time, whether you’re after a lazy afternoon with a bottle of wine and a book, or for a fast-paced business lunch with colleagues. It’s a delicate balance, but one Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro manages with ease.

The menu is limited, but in a good way. The range is narrow but the quality is high.

Starter was haddock and salmon fishcakes and mozzarella bruschetta. The haddock and salmon came with sweet chilli sauce that tasted made rather than bought in, which is a particular high point. The fish was fresh, the herbs well balanced and the entire dish was eminently enjoyable.

“Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro is relaxed, comfortable and a nice place to spend time.”

The mozzarella, rainbow tomato and basil bruschetta was a light bite that was so much more than cheese on toast. The tomatoes were fresh, juicy and sweet, while the buffalo mozzarella had a lovely creamy note.

Main course was sea bass and ravioli. The sea bass came with herb mash and pesto and was a lovely accompaniment to the fish starter. This fish dish was meatier, with more substance and a lot more herbs. Well balanced and very tasty.

The sub blush tomato and mozzarella ravioli was another dish to complement the starter. It sat well with the bruschetta and once more showed the quality of the cheese. The rice was perfectly prepared, well-seasoned and worked very well indeed.

All of the food was of a high quality, tasty and ate well. The service was equally good, with prompt attention, fast delivery and unrushed efficiency. We lingered after our meal and were not hurried, urged to drink more or any of the usual tricks. We were left alone to bask in the meal and enjoy our wine.

Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro is somewhere we would happily visit again. It’s relaxed, comfortable and a nice place to spend time.
