You can always depend on Waldorf to make you feel special. The Waldorf Hilton in London is a prime example. In a city where service can be spotty at best, the Waldorf made us feel special from the moment we walked in until the moment we left.

The building is a huge French style building a few minutes’ walk from Covent Garden. The Homage dining room is large, with high ceilings and columns everywhere. It’s a very grand room with white walls and a wooden parquet floor.

We were greeted and seated quickly and efficiently by a friendly waiter. We were quickly presented with menus and asked for our drinks order. Everything seemed fast, but not frantic. More friendly than frenetic, even though it was busy.

We started with a tian of crab and a goats cheese salad. The crab was beautifully presented and dressed exquisitely. The crab was fresh and although came with seasoning, the crab taste still shone through.

The goats cheese salad was lovely too. It came with beetroot and was dressed with one of the smoothest olive oils I think I have ever tasted. The leaves were fresh and crisp and the goats cheese was the perfect mix of soft and rich.

Main course was an Angus steak and dover sole. I love my steaks, and am becoming quite the connoisseur of them. Angus meat is one of the finest in the world, it even beats Kobi in my opinion. This example was no different. The meat was rich, moist, succulent and just melted in the mouth. Had I not been in public, I would have ordered another.

The dover sole looked just as good. It shone on the plate, just begging to be eaten. It fell off the bone, and ate really well. It was lightly seasoned, with the tang of sea salt still evident on the palate.

We of course ordered sides of vegetables of the day and sautéed spinach which were the perfect accompaniments.

We had wine with our meal, a lovely rose, Coteaux d’Aix from France. One word to describe that, sublime.

Our dining experience at The Waldorf Hilton was superb. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
