Hakkasan on Hanway Street celebrates an ancient Chinese culinary ritual each Sunday, when they put on a special “Dim Sum Sundays” menu. The menu begins with a cocktail from their impressive cocktail selection followed by a half bottle of NV Perrier-Jouët Blason Brut Rosé to accompany your food, and concludes with a cocktail to enjoy with dessert.

Our afternoon followed that exact format, and we began with a couple of Hakkasan’s award-winning cocktails. We opted for a ‘Fleur de Coco’ - coconut water and raspberry with vodka and sake - and a ‘Matcha Vera’ - feijoa fruit, gin, aloe vera, jasmine and green tea. They were both superb and provided the perfect aperitif before our meal commenced.

“...an excellent, eclectic experience at a very reasonable price point.”

For our savoury dishes, we enjoyed the salt and pepper squid, and the stir-fried pepper rib eye beef in merlot. Both dishes married the freshest ingredients with the most beautiful flavours, and were presented very beautifully. The standard of food at Hakkasan really is very high.

We couldn’t wait to sample dessert, and decided to choose three to share. We went for the ‘Strawberries and Cream’, which consisted of strawberries, elderflower and panna cotta and was served with a ‘Basilcello’ cocktail; the ‘Chocolate Cherry Bar’, which combined chocolate, cherries and vanilla flavours and came with a ‘Seville 33’ cocktail; and finally, we enjoyed the selection of macaroons, served with a ‘Shanghai Sting’.

The desserts were outstanding, as were their accompanying cocktails. We were very impressed indeed with the quality of the food; every dish tasted divine. We were also impressed with the variety of the dishes on offer at Hakkasan, which provides an excellent, eclectic experience at a very reasonable price point.

The only thing that was lacking for us slightly was the service. But the standard of the food completely made up for any other shortcomings.

If you’re a dim sum fan, then this is certainly the experience for you. A special menu is always worth getting out of bed for, but at Hakkasan’s “Dim Sum Sundays” the drinks are also worth making the trip for. All-in-all we had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and would certainly recommend it if you, like us, enjoy making the most of a Sunday afternoon.
