Carom at Meza is situated in the heart of Soho. Part of the D&D Group, this restaurant is situated in the same building as Floridita and offers Indian cuisine with an interesting and varied menu.

As soon as you enter Carom, you can’t help but relax. The cool, buzzy atmosphere instantly sets the tone of the evening, and we couldn’t wait to start our experience with a few pre-dinner cocktails.

The cocktails at Carom are ingenious inventions - quirky and very well made. We thoroughly enjoyed a Ginger Chilli Tipple (a gorgeous blend of chilli and gin with citrus undertones and cranberry juice, which can also be served as a hot tea version), The Royal Potion (which is Bar Manager Adam Spinks and Tea Master Angus Denoon’s take on the classic mulled wine, served hot) and a Tea Alexander (Carom’s version of an Alexander cocktail, served in a miniature milk bottle to shake up yourself). They were superb, with The Royal Potion being a particular favourite!

After our cocktails, we waited in great anticipation of our meal. To begin, we chose the poppadum with homemade chutneys, the bhelpuri (puffed rice salad) and some crispy fried tiger prawns served with curried ketchup. We were not disappointed – the flavours certainly delivered and we couldn’t wait to sample more.

“A very cool restaurant with a lot of great ideas and fun alternatives to classic themes.”

For our main courses, we opted for the saag paneer, which consisted of Indian cheese served with ginger, spices, tomato and spinach, and the lamb ‘Nihari’ – lamb with spices. They were both delicious, full of flavour dishes, which we believed to be excellent value for money

As side dishes, we enjoyed a peshwari naan, steamed basmati rice, baked basmati rice as well as a dish of slow cooked black lentils.

We chose a bottle of the 2011 Argentinian Malbec Tilia Mendoza to accompany our meal, which was the perfect addition.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Carom at Meza and would definitely recommend it as a brilliant restaurant for a superb relaxed meal. The food itself is delicious and boasts some amazing flavours, however, we even return simply for a cocktail.

This is a very cool restaurant with a lot of great ideas and fun alternatives to classic themes. It’s definitely one to add to your list to visit. We will certainly be back, and look forward to sampling more of what is to offer from both the food and the cocktail menu!
