Bluebird on Kings Road is as sophisticated as the area. Offering modern British cuisine. The interior is simple but beautifully designed, creating a bright and fresh canvas on which to present their impressive menu.

Our first impression of Bluebird was enhanced by the passionate sommelier. Describing each cocktail in detail, he helped us select four from their exciting menu. The first was called a Bluebird brulee and contained vodka, crème brulee syrup, Mozart chocolate, butterscotch, pineapple juice and fresh cream. Very enjoyable this was a unique and delicious cocktail that imitated a sweet brulee through a perfect combination of ingredients. This was followed by a Chelsea Flower, which included Hendricks gin, pomegranate liqueur, fresh raspberry and apple juice. The freshness of the ingredients was one of the most noticeable aspects of this cocktail. With so much fruit, the high quality was clear and really enhanced the drink.

We also sampled a Miss Monroe, containing Absolut vanilla vodka, Chambord, raspberry puree and cranberry juice. Another sweet cocktail, this drink had a vibrant red colour and was a fruity and sweet as it looked. Finally, we tried a Watermelon martini, which contained Marquis vodka, orange curacao, fresh watermelon, cranberry juice and watermelon syrup. This was another fruity cocktail and the combination of orange curacao with cranberry was very effective.

“Our first impression of Bluebird was enhanced by the passionate sommelier”

For our starter we both chose a salad. The first was a beetroot salad with goats cheese, which was served with dandelion, pine nuts and mustard dressing. This salad was very delicious and has a fresh and summery taste. The added flavour of the beetroot, goats cheese and pine nuts combined was wonderful and a fantastic start to the meal. We also chose a butter lettuce salad, served with avocado and cherry tomatoes. Again, this was a fresh summery dish, and the avocado in particular tasted delicious.

For my main course I chose the rib eye steak with blue cheese sauce, while my guest chose a fillet steak with béarnaise sauce. Both were very well cooked and served, and were very tender. The quality of the meat was clear and only enhanced by the in house sauces. The steaks were also very well accompanied by a selection of side dishes, all of which were very enjoyable. The first was a side of mash potato, which was creamy and not at all bland. The second was a delicious side of buttered spinach, and the third was a side of mac and cheese, which was also very enjoyable and full of flavour.

To follow our meal we chose two desserts. With just enough room left, I enjoyed a rocky road sundae. An impressive and sophisticated take on a childhood classic, the sundae included marshmallows, pistachios and a lot of chocolate. Although filling, the sundae was very tasty. My guest chose a slightly healthier, but just as tasty, option, a muscat granita. The combination of muscat grapes with a tropical fruit salad and a coconut sorbet was very refreshing and an effective palate cleanser. Filled with summery, fruity flavours, it was a delicious dessert to finish our Bluebird experience.
