Afternoon Tea at the Connaught hotel has recently been awarded the coveted ‘Award of Excellence’ from the Tea Guild for 2013; and it’s easy to see why. Served in the hotel’s Espelette restaurant, which has been awarded membership by the British Tea Council, there’s no place more elegant to relax of an afternoon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Afternoon Tea when we visited. We opted for the Champagne Afternoon Tea, and it certainly was a special experience. We stared with a glass of Laurent-Perrier, which was most welcome, whilst we relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.

“I’m struggling to think of a better way to spend an afternoon.”

It wasn’t long before our seasonal finger sandwich selection arrived. Our selection included coronation chicken, ploughman’s pickle with Montgomery cheddar, Scottish smoked salmon with crème fraîche, and cucumber with minted cream cheese. The flavour combinations were delicious - the cucumber with the mint cream cheese was a great twist.

We then enjoyed some fresh scones baked at the Connaught Bakery. They were served with clotted cream and we were able to choose jam from the Jam Menu. We went for damson plum and passion fruit. We were not disappointed!

We also enjoyed a delicious selection of cakes, including chocolate and spicy hazelnut and matcha and chestnut with passion fruit compote, all washed down with a delicious pot of Royal Connaught tea.

Afternoon Tea at the Connaught was certainly one of the best Afternoon Teas we have experienced. Not only was the food impeccable, the staff were very friendly and very smartly dressed. Even without the Champagne, this was pure luxury and I’m struggling to think of a better way to spend an afternoon.

The Connaught is located in Mayfair and provides an excellent, relaxing escape from shopping or sightseeing. Afternoon Tea at the Connaught is well worth popping in for, and we would definitely look forward to going back.
