The restaurant group Miller & Carter is well regarded for those looking for a standardly good steak meal, and we’ve often heard good things. On a recent visit to Liverpool, we decided to dine at Miller & Carter, which can be found in the popular area of the Royal Albert Dock, in the heart of Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by a member of the team and shown to our table that was located in the heart of the action. It was a busy evening at the restaurant, with most of the tables being filled, but we were pleased to see that the team appeared to have the service under control and we enjoyed taking in the buzzy atmosphere.

On this occasion, we decided to skip our first course and head straight for the main event. I went for the 8 oz grass fed ribeye steak. I am a big fan of the ribeye cut, which the menu described as “fine marbling results in an intensely packed flavour”; and I was pleased to note that they got that pretty spot on. My partner went for the 8oz fillet which is described as “the most tender steak regarded by many as the premium cut”, and again, we were not disappointed.

Both of our steaks came served with parsley butter, seasoned fries, balsamic beef tomato, a choice of steak sauce - with my choice being the cracked peppercorn, and my partners’ choice being the porcini mushroom and black garlic - and finally a slice of their renowned onion loaf. We also added a side of their roasted Mediterranean-style vegetables, that were beautifully prepared.

“We really enjoyed the atmosphere at Miller & Carter, and our meal was wonderfully executed and well presented.”

Prior to your steak arriving you are served one of their lettuce wedges again with a choice of sauce. I went for the stilton and blue cheese and my partner went for the garlic mayonnaise and grana padano.

To accompany our meal, we chose a bottle of the 2017 Finca Andinos, Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina. This was a perfectly quaffable wine, with an abundance of dark fruit flavour and a smooth finish. It paired perfectly with the rich steaks.

Considering we had skipped our starters, this was a super indulgent meal. The portion sizes were ample, and we enjoyed each and every mouthful. Unfortunately that meant that we were unable to enjoy their tempting desserts.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our evening, and would certainly return. We really liked the atmosphere at Miller & Carter, and our meal was wonderfully executed and well presented. We would recommend it for a good steak meal in Liverpool, which is sure not to disappoint.
