Mal Brasserie is a casual restaurant that can be found located inside the Malmaison in Liverpool. During a recent say at this hotel, we decided to dine in their restaurant and opted to experience their ‘Boudoir’ private dining room, which is a beautiful space and ideal for those looking to celebrate with friends or just enjoy a secluded dining experience.
When we arrived, we were soon shown to the ‘Boudoir’ and were presented with the menus. We decided to begin our evening with an aperitif of two glasses of the Mumm Rose, offering a pale, salmon coloured Champagne that wet our appetites perfectly.
To start I opted for the chicken liver parfait, which was served with truffle butter, winter fruit chutney and warm toasted brioche. This was an exceptionally tasty dish, with the richness of the parfait and the earthy notes of the truffle butter perfectly offset by the sweetness of the fruit chutney and brioche. It was a real treat.
My partner chose the Chez Mal signature Ahi tuna tartare, which was served with avocado, wasabi puree, black sesame, pickled ginger and a soy dressing. The tuna was wonderfully fresh and pink and looked absolutely stunning next to the greens of the avocado and wasabi puree. The black sesame added another visual dimension to this dish, which was wonderfully colourful.
“We have yet to be disappointed when visiting Liverpool’s Mal Brasserie.”
For our main courses, I chose the 350g pan roasted signature strip steak, which was cooked to perfection and came complete with a chimichurri sauce. My partner chose the 200g fillet steak, accompanied by a rich peppercorn sauce. The meat used for each steak was perfectly tender and simply melted in the mouth. As sides, we also opted for the truffle and parmesan pommes frites, as well as some wilted spinach and seasonal cabbage and bacon. Each side felt wonderfully indulgent and added another delectable flavour element to our meal.
Alongside, we thoroughly enjoyed a bottle of the 2009, Botham Merrill Willis Cabernet Sauvignon, Mclaren Vale, Australia, which is a full bodied wine full of red berry fruits, offering a long finish.
For dessert, we both decided to opt for an affogato, which sees a shot of hot espresso poured over two scoops of vanilla ice cream. It was also accompanied with a glass of Amaretto, which is a personal favourite and certainly did not disappoint.
Throughout the evening the service was consistently faultless, as it always has been during our previous visits over the years. The food is also an absolute joy and for this reason, we have yet to be disappointed when visiting Liverpool’s Mal Brasserie.
