The Brandshatch Place Hotel is a country house hotel set in beautiful Kent countryside and is home to a lovely restaurant, The Dining Room. The restaurant consists of separate spaces decorated in pastels, creating a light and airy feel.

After the pre-dinner San Miguel and delicious appetisers of avocado and courgette choux and goats cheese cheesecake, we were shown to our table at the window, where we were fortunate enough to see the rabbits as the sun was setting over the lawns.

Our table was served by an efficient team, answering our questions and attending to our every need. We were served with a light portion of carrot and coriander soup with cranberry and sage bread before our starters arrived, an ideal start to our meal.

The menu offered plenty of choice, including a couple of vegetarian options. There was enough variety here for the most demanding of palates and from what we saw the portion sizes were about right too.

“The Brandshatch Place Hotel Restaurant is excellent and we felt well looked after.”

Our starter consisted of cream of cauliflower soup with cauliflower beignets, which was fresh, vibrant and very light. Cauliflower is one of those vegetables that has to be prepared perfectly for it to work, and this soup worked very well indeed.

Our main course was Pan Haggerty and roast corn fed chicken breast. The Pan Haggerty was a wonderful layered fusion of various vegetables, which was served with wild mushroom, mashed potato, fondue and buttered baby vegetables. Everything was perfectly cooked and had a fresh, individual taste, it was delicious.

The chicken breast was served with fondant potato, wild mushroom and pancetta. Although slightly richer than the Pan Haggerty, the combination worked well.

We shared a dessert of passion fruit cheesecake with passion fruit curd and honeycomb ice cream, a delightful end to a delicious meal.

After dinner, our friendly waiter persuaded us to order some peppermint tea. When our pots of tea leaf infusions arrived, our waiter explained in great detail how the three egg timer set worked. He obviously knows plenty about the best way to serve all kinds of tea, and we listened with interest. The special tea pots make it possible to control the brewing time. The peppermint tea was most refreshing, a perfect brew.

Our meal was excellent and we felt well looked after. We would definitely dine here again.
