Kesgrave Hall is a country-house hotel set in the Suffolk countryside. It’s a high quality venue that offers lovely, relaxing accommodation and dining.

The concept and décor is modern, but done in a relax way. It’s a nice combination that provides all the benefits of modernity with none of the downsides. The décor and furnishing is modern, offering a contemporary dining experience with the warmth of the countryside.

We had dinner here one evening, which was an excellent experience. We were well looked after and the food wasn’t bad either. The dining room is light and relaxed and has an open kitchen so you can watch your course being prepared. It’s a nice touch that adds an intimacy to proceedings.

Because of the weather, we were able to eat on the terrace, which had great views over the grounds and had patio heaters for when the temperature began to drop.

“Kesgrave Hall conspired to create an evening to remember.”

Our dinner began with deep fried Haloumi and risotto. The Haloumi came with beetroot, tomato and red pepper salsa garnished with coriander. The Haloumi was cooked perfectly, though fried, wasn’t greasy at all. The fresh salsa had so much flavour it should be bottled and sold.

The chorizo risotto also had cauliflower and crispy squid, giving a range of textures to the starter. The paprika richness of the chorizo gave a lovely warmth to the rest, while the crispy squid provided a satisfying crunch.

Main course was 12oz chargrilled steak and a Dedham Vale cheeseburger. The steak came with roasted tomatoes and red onion and was garnished with watercress . We also ordered sides of buttered new potatoes. The meat was juicy, soft and cooked perfectly. The vegetables were all fresh and added lovely flavours to the meat.

The Dedham Vale cheeseburger was also made of good quality meat. It came with skinny fries, what looked like home-made ketchup and salad. The beef was excellent, with just the right level of herbiness a good burger should have. The fries were crisp and dry, while the ketchup was a delight.

Dessert were a pair of dark chocolate brownie sundaes which were rich, sweet and the perfect finish to a meal.

Our meal at Kesgrave Hall was excellent. The service, surroundings, terrace and quality of the dishes all conspired to create an evening to remember. We would definitely come here again.
