The Aviator Hotel in Farnborough is a fantastic, modern venue on the edge of Farnborough airport in Hampshire. It’s chic, modern and easily accessible from the M3.

We had afternoon tea with champagne there recently in the Brasserie. The room is an elegant space with comfy leather seats, dark wood tables, wood panelling and lots of black and white pictures on the walls.

It’s a comfortable room that seeks to create an atmosphere of the 1930s, which complements the overall theme of the hotel. The mixture of the modern and the classic is done very well and suited us perfectly.

Our tea was presented in a nice Twining’s wooden box full of a variety of teas. We had English breakfast, green tea and a mint tea.

Each was excellent, but The Aviator is another hotel that seems to think tea bags are acceptable. They are not. Afternoon tea should be served with leaf tea. It is of a higher quality and fits the occasion. Nothing less will do. Despite that, the tea did taste quite nice.

With our tea came home made scones with clotted cream and jam and a selection of sandwiches and cakes. The sandwiches included ham, cheese, cucumber and smoked salmon. Each was made with fresh bread, fresh ingredients and was an excellent accompaniment to the tea.

“The Aviator Hotel is a fantastic, modern hotel on the edge of Farnborough airport.”

The cakes included vanilla parfait with strawberries, white chocolate and vanilla cheesecake with raspberry ripple sorbet and assorted finger cakes. Each, like the sandwiches was fresh, seemingly home-made and delicious.

The champagne was served by the glass and was a lovely light drink with an effervescent aroma and a very subtle nose. It wasn’t very yeasty and was entirely too easy to drink. Well worth the extra.

The service at The Aviator was prompt, the food and drink very good and our experience was positive overall. Apart from the faux pas with using tea bags instead of leaf tea, our afternoon tea here was entirely positive. We would happily dine or partake of tea here again.
