Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Geneva sits in the heart of the city and commands views of the beautiful mountains in the distance. Situated beside the River Rhone, the hotel is perfectly situated for those wishing to enjoy both the views and the convenience of this wonderful city.
Inside the hotel there are enough food and beverages choices to suit every palate. We decided to sample the hotel’s popular afternoon tea during our visit and were seated on the outside terrace known as the Taittinger Bar. The terrace itself was beautifully designed and furnished with white cushioned sofas that faced the river.
“The terrace itself was beautifully designed.”
Having ordered a champagne afternoon tea, we were promptly served a glass of Taittinger champagne, which was swiftly followed by our beautifully presented afternoon tea. The sandwiches were particularly beautiful, cut into petite circles and served on delicious brioche.
The three sandwiches included egg mayonnaise and salad, dill cream cheese toast with cucumber and saffron brioche with smoked salmon and dill cream cheese. Having tried each sandwich, we were very impressive by the quality of the ingredients and the depth of flavour that was present in each one. The smoked salmon was a highlight, particularly when paired with the lovely dill cream cheese.
Following our sandwiches we enjoyed freshly baked plain and raisin scones. The scones were served with a selection of organic jams as well as double cream from Gruyere, all of which tasted wonderful when layered on to the fresh scones. The double cream was a lovely alternative to traditional British clotted cream.
Finally, we indulged in a selection of freshly made desserts. Our selection included a fruity blueberry tartlet and a raspberry panna cotta, both of which were beautifully made and thoroughly enjoyed. We also sampled a dish entitled ‘mellow of chocolate’, which was a rich chocolaty dessert that was the perfect finale to our wonderful afternoon tea.
