It’s not surprising that Hotel Lungaro’s Borgo San Jacopo restaurant has the outstanding reputation that it does. Located in the heart of the hotel with stunning views across the River Arno, this restaurant is certainly something special.

If you book early enough, you have the opportunity of reserving one of only three tables on the terrace overlooking the water. This is probably the most romantic dining experience in Florence.

The décor of the restaurant channels the sophisticated glamour of the 1950’s with a cream and white interior. The chef – Beatrice Segoni – is a culinary genius, who’s dishes are as fresh and they are original. Her menu is tuned to the finest of local ingredients, personally selected.

Recently, we were lucky enough to dine there and were astounded by the experience.

“Brogo San Jacopo revisits Italian traditions and respectfully brings them into the present…”

The dishes featured on the menu are a careful selection of traditional Tuscan food and international cuisine. Having been advised that the seafood is particularly special, we both went for the hand made potato gnocchi with lobster to start. It was simply gorgeous.

For our main courses we opted for the beef filet with jackdaw and a saffron béarnaise sauce, and the eggplant parmigiana with Certaldo onions and zucchini flowers. We also had a side of roasted potatoes.

Each element of the dishes was cooked to perfection and the fresh, local ingredients made every mouthful that little bit more delicious. It really was some of the finest gourmet Italian cooking we have experience.

Naturally, the wine list certainly didn’t disappoint either. Boasting over 500 prestigious labels, this restaurant caters for even the most accomplished of connoisseurs. I would also recommend experiencing a cocktail – they certainly are a work of art.

Brogo San Jacopo revisits Italian traditions and respectfully brings them into the present, with expertly cooked and wonderfully presented dishes that are out to impress. And impress they do. This restaurant comes highly recommended by us as a must experience when in Florence.
