Abode is a relatively new hotel chain that owns a range of nice venues throughout the UK. They are generally of a good quality, offering decent accommodation at a reasonable price. The ABode Exeter is no exception.

The location is excellent, right in the middle of Exeter city centre with the front facing the impressive Gothic cathedral. That means everything the city has to offer is within walking distance, ideal for a weekend getaway.

The exterior of the building is whitewashed Georgian and very tidy. Inside, the Abode Exeter is comfortably modern with light colours, comfortable furniture and a very welcoming atmosphere. That welcome begins with the smiling receptionist, who checked us in quickly and sent us on our way.

The rooms here are called Comfortable, Desirable, Enviable and Fabulous. We had a Fabulous room, which was the largest. It had a good-sized bedroom with seating area and a large bathroom.

“The ABode Exeter is of a good quality, offering decent accommodation at a reasonable price.”

The bed dominates the room, but there is plenty of space to walk around. The mattress is firm and comfortable, the pillows plump and plentiful. The covers were soft, the sheets good quality linen and provided an excellent nights’ sleep.

The large window had the best outlook, over the cathedral and provided a lovely city vista for our day. Despite the window and being in a city, the usual cacophony of noise was largely kept out.

The bathroom was well-appointed, with a large roll-top bath, separate shower, plenty of products and an excellent quality of light. The twin sinks speeded up getting ready too, which was nice.

The rest of the hotel echoes the modernity and quality of our room. The public spaces are comfortable, the colour scheme relaxing and the service came with a smile.

As with other Abode hotels, the Exeter venue has a Michael Caines restaurant. There is also a champagne bar, the Well House Tavern next door, MC Café Bar and Grill and the MC Boutique.

The ABode Exeter is an excellent stopping-off point for those visiting the city or going to and from the West Country. The quality is high and the experience positive. We would definitely stay here again.
