The Headland Hotel has probably one of the most beautiful locations in England. The aptly named Headland sits on the edge of a cliff on the north Cornwall coast offering unparalleled views of the Atlantic.
The building is a large, imposing structure that has been well decorated in light colours and soft furnishings to create a relaxed environment from where to stay, eat, or enjoy afternoon tea.
Tea is taken in The Terrace, a relaxed environment with floor to ceiling windows and seating outside when the weather allows. It’s an enviable location to while away an afternoon and enjoy some good quality tea and food, which is exactly what we did.
We had The Headland Full Afternoon Tea, which included leaf tea, finger sandwiches, cakes and pastries. It was value for money, high quality and a great way to spend time. There are a wide range of afternoon tea options, including hot food, but we thought we would stick to tradition and we enjoyed every bite!
“Our afternoon tea at The Headland Hotel was a delight.”
We had English Tea, which was served hot from a pot into delicate china teacups. The tea was rich, flavourful and just what the doctor ordered while taking in the sea air.
To follow was a selection of finger sandwiches, including smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and watercress and cucumber. All the usual suspects, served on fresh bread and with flair. Each had a very distinct flavour and was served on a mixture of white and granary breads.
Next up was the sweet course, served on a silver cake stand. They included fresh scones with jam and Rodda Cornish clotted cream, chocolate slices, éclairs, meringues and a fruit tart. Each was fresh, sweet and very dainty. Perfect for the setting and the occasion. You can’t visit Cornwall and not enjoy some clotted cream and this portion was delicious.
The sumptuous surroundings, stunning sea views, lovely tea, gorgeous sandwiches and pastries, great service and relaxed atmosphere made our afternoon tea at The Headland Hotel a delight. We would definitely visit here again.
