Bar à Fromage can be found located in Bellevue Hotel & Spa, within a converted alpine dairy, still retaining much of its natural charm of the once functioning dairy, many of the original items from the dairy ornate the walls.

We decided to experience Bar à Fromage whilst staying at Bellevue Hotel & Spa to soak up one of the more authentic dining options available, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. From being greeted by the sounds and warmth of the huge, roaring open fireplace, to the stunning views of the local glaciers outside, and the attentive, friendly staff in their traditional uniforms - the experience put a stamp on an already enjoyable stay.

To begin our evening, we ordered a couple of glasses of local Prosecco. A light and bubbly glass that was most enjoyable and livened up our palette leading into our first course.

To start with, I decided on the La Favo Pasta, which is short pasta with green beans, Fontina cheese, tomatoes, and croutons. A simple dish, but well-executed and which managed to exceed our expectations. My partner started with the Le Insalatine dell’orto, a salad made from fresh ingredients sourced from their own gardens which included carrots, olives, tomatoes, egg, tuna, and mozzarella.

“The ambience and decor of the dining room was a joy to experience.”

For our main courses, we both decided on the “La Potence” experience. This dish comprises of morsels of beef “Garonnais” marinated in herbs from their vegetable garden and grilled, complete with pilaf rice, fresh vegetables, potatoes, and home-made sauces. A word of note, be prepared when ordering this dish as it doesn’t just aim to please those indulging, it’s a real head turner in the restaurant as the beef is set alight at the table. It’s really quite a sight, and one that we were more than happy to indulge in, and beyond the aesthetics lay the most beautiful flavours.

We had to pass on dessert as we overindulged in our main course. No regrets, but we do advise you to save room as the desserts did look impressive. It just wasn’t to be on this occasion for us, but I’m sure we’ll return in the future and dip into their impressive dessert menu.

Our chosen wine for the evening was a bottle of Institut Agricole Régional Vin du Prévôt, Valle d'Aosta, Italy. A gorgeous red with a nose of intense and elegant aromas, very pleasing in the mouth with an eclectic range of flavours.

Bar à Fromage is a dining experience to remember. The staff were very attentive to our needs, the ambience and decor of the dining room was a joy to experience, and we were impressed by the creativity and presentation of each dish. This was certainly a memorable evening with a strong thumbs up from us.
