Fig Restaurant can be found located at the Cotswold House hotel in Chipping Campden. Fig Restaurant is the hotel’s fine dining option, having been awarded two Rosettes. You can expect crisp white linen, polished cutlery and the perfect setting for a fine meal in a fine restaurant.
When we arrived a member of the team greeted us warmly and we were shown to our table. The entire service throughout the evening was in fact, impeccable, and a great reflection on the hotel itself. What we really enjoyed about Fig Restaurant is their minimalist approach to their menu, which was clean and straightforward.
For my starter, I went for the hand picked crab served with watermelon, cucumber and lavage. This was a refreshing starter full of lovely, complimentary flavours and textures. My partner went for the buffalo burrata, which came served with rocket sauce, balsamic and peas. The creaminess of the burrata was wonderfully balanced by the sharp sweetness of the accompanying elements of the dish.
“This restaurant is a fantastic example of fine dining, and is an experience we simply cannot wait to repeat.”
For our main courses, I went for the Cotswold white chicken, which was served with truffle poached breast, Swiss chard and warm parfait. This was a decadent dish that really served to showcase the fine ingredients. My partner went for the huge dry aged beef, which was served as a slow cooked short rib with chanterelle mushroom and carrot. Again, this dish was nothing short of impressive – the meat was outstanding.
For dessert, I went for the lemon cheesecake, which was served peach sorbet and almond crisp, and was nothing short of summer in a bowl. My partner decided on the coconut cream meringue, which was served with summer fruit salad and Malibu; again, a triumph of a summer dessert.
To accompany our meal, we sipped on a bottle of 2014 Closerie de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, France. This was a full bodied wine, that was full of dark fruit and went down very easily indeed.
We would highly recommend Fig Restaurant to anyone visiting the Cotswolds. This restaurant is a fantastic example of fine dining, and is an experience we simply cannot wait to repeat.
