The Restaurant at The Byron of Byron offers both inside and outside dining options. Being a pleasant evening we opted to sit outside which was simply beautiful. Their outdoor area is nicely lit and well heated, and the views over the rainforest are wonderful.
The menu was simple but well executed. The restaurant also offers an innovative wine pairing machine, which allows you to browse the wine list and chose the wines you would like paired with your chosen dishes. The wines are then brought out by the glass, this gave you the opportunity to sample several different wines throughout the evening. It also helped us develop a better understanding of the wines selected.
To begin we ordered the Grilled Haloumi Salad, with Baby Beetroots, Basil, Frisee and Hazelnuts. A delicious salad, paired with a glass of Bin 2, Shiraz Mourvedre, 2012. A complex dark berry wine and very smooth on the palate. We also ordered the Free-range Chicken and Duck Terrine, served with a Beetroot Relish, Pistachio and Toasted Sourdough. The terrine was superb and complimented with a glass of Kalimna Bin 2, Shiraz, 2012. An intense wine with dark berries and a lovely aftertaste.
"if you're visiting Byron Bay then this is simply a must."
For our main courses we ordered Roasted New England Rump of Lamb, with Cauliflower Couscous and Herb Salad, Globe Artichokes, Truss Tomatoes and Oregano. The Lamb was divine, the dish was wonderfully presented and executed. We also paired this with a glass of Bin 389, Cabernet Shiraz, 2012. A wine with a Dark fruit body, and a velvety delivery. We also ordered Pan Fried Cape Grimm Tasmania Beef Sirloin, with Hand Cut Chips, Chimmichurri, and Baby Cos Leaf Salad. Another outstanding dish, complimented by a glass of Bin 407, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012. A sweet and fruity wine, with an oak and cedar undertone.
Finally, for dessert we ordered the Coconut Panna Cotta, with Strawberry Soup and Watermelon Ganita. As well as a Tropical Fruit Salad, served with Ginger and Finger Lime Syrup, Lychee, and a Mango and Coconut Sorbet. Superb desserts. We both had a glass of St. Henri, Shiraz, 2011 to end our evening. A soft, floral wine, with some delicate tones.
We had a wonderful evening from the moment we arrived. The food was superb, the wine was superb and the service was faultless, if you're visiting Byron Bay then this is simply a must.
