Oddsocks Bar and Kitchen can be found located inside the Jurys Inn City Centre hotel in the lovely seaside town of Brighton. The restaurant décor itself is rather chic and quirky with an abundance of Chesterfield sofas, armchairs and banquette style seating.

When we arrived for dinner, we were greeted by a member of the team, who perhaps lacked a smile, but was helpful nonetheless as they showed us to our table. To begin our evening, we chose a couple of aperitifs including a Brighton gin and tonic for myself, with my partner choosing a Bombay Sapphire and tonic. We sipped on our refreshing drinks as we perused the extensive gastro pub style menu that Oddsocks has to offer.

For our starters, I opted for the roasted potato skins which were generously filled with crispy bacon and Sussex Charmer cheddar. This starter, although simple, was very tasty with the crisp outside of the potato skin providing a perfect textural balance against its soft middle. My partner opted for the baked camembert with caramelised onion marmalade and toasted granary fingers. The cheese was gooey to perfection and the caramelised onion marmalade gave a decadent sweet taste.

“We love Brighton as a city and there is something about this restaurant that has managed to encapsulate it perfectly.”

For our main courses, I opted for the rotisserie half chicken and chose the garlic and rosemary butter rub. I ordered this alongside sweet potato fries and a rocket and parmesan salad. The chicken itself was exceptionally tasty, demonstrating that it had been cooked very well. My partner chose the lean chilli con carne, which saw both diced and braised beef chilli finished with a touch of organic dark chocolate, wild rice, smashed avocado and corn chips. The flavours of the chilli were simply delicious, balanced with just the right amount of spice.

Following our main courses, in place of dessert, we savoured two glasses of Disaronno as we let our dinner go down and took in the hustle and bustle and fun atmosphere. We love Brighton as a city and there is something about this restaurant that has managed to encapsulate it perfectly.

We were impressed with our visit to Oddsocks, and would certainly return should we be staying in the Jurys Inn City Centre Brighton again. The menu offers something for everyone, and the fun ambiance really makes the place more special.
