Rodizio Rico in Birmingham is a Brazilian restaurant that brings the best of Latin America to your table.
It’s a unique venue, inside the Cube in the city centre. It’s the first one outside London and seems to be doing very well if the buzz we experienced was anything to go by.
Décor-wise, there is nothing really to report. It’s a standard restaurant with a tiled floor, long tables, faux leather bench seats and an open kitchen. The décor is modern, with lots of wood, but everything is understated to allow the food to take centre stage.
There is a central table with sides and salads, from which you can help yourself as part of the price. Everything is completely fresh, we saw them change some of these dishes a couple of times during our visit, ensuring everything was as good as it could be.
Drinks are served by busy waiting staff and when you’re ready to eat meat, you turn your dining card upside down to let the staff know you’re ready. Then the show really begins.
“Rodizio Rico is a unique experience that every meat lover should try.”
What makes Rodizio Rico different is the fact you can see the meat being prepared in the open grill. The meat is put onto skewers and collected by staff called Passadores. They bring it to you on skewers and slice it fresh onto your plate. They roam the restaurant offering the meat until it has all gone, then go back for more.
The concept here is that for a flat fee, you can eat as much salad, sides and meat as you can manage, no questions asked and no exceptions. In many “all you can eat” places, there is a compromise on the quality of food. There is no such thing here.
You have a choice of lamb, beef, including steak, pork, chicken and sausages and all of them are very high quality. We tried a bit of everything and it was delicious. The meat was fresh, tender, juicy and hot. We had watched it being grilled, watched it skewered, then waited with baited breath as it was served on our plate.
Rodizio Rico is a unique experience that every meat lover should try. There is a comprehensive vegetarian open, but meat is where the restaurant shines. We had a great time and would be more than happy to return!
