Mr White’s English Chophouse in Birmingham lends its name from the charming Marco Pierre White. It’s a relatively new concept and can be found inside Hotel La Tour. The restaurant is rather intimate, and carries on the contemporary interior design found throughout the hotel. The menu is fabulously British, and the a celebration for meat lovers.

We started the evening with two glasses of Laurent-Perrier Brut L-P. A delightful, pale golden champagne with fine citrus notes.

To begin we ordered the Salad of Beetroot, with Goat’s Cheese and Candied Walnuts with Walnut Dressing. This was an exciting dish to start with and left us excited to explore more of the menu. We also ordered the Wheeler’s Atlantic Prawn Cocktail with Marie Rose Sauce. Another splendid dish, and wonderfully presented.

“We have no hesitation in recommending Mr White’s.”

For our main course I ordered the 8oz Fillet with Peppercorn Sauce. The Fillet was a delicious cut of meat, I personally prefer my meat a little more rare than how this was prepared on this occasion, but I enjoyed the dish and finished it without hesitation. Mr partner ordered the 10oz Ribeye with Peppercorn Sauce, which we have to say was cooked perfectly. Both dishes were served with Buttered Chips and a generous helping of gorgeous Roasted Vine Tomatoes. We added sides of Buttered Garden Peas and Buttered New Potatoes.

We couldn’t manage any dessert following our feast, but did see some tempting items that we will have to try on our next visit. Our chosen wine for the evening was a bottle of 2014, Passori Veneto Rosso, Italy. A rich, smooth red, with strong plum and dried fruit notes.

We had an enjoyable evening and have no hesitation in recommending Mr White’s. If you enjoy excellent steaks and classic British cuisine, this restaurant is a must.
