Hugos restaurant can be found inside the Intercontinental hotel, Berlin and is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Located on the 14th floor of the hotel, Hugos boasts a Michelin star, and it’s easy to see why.

Head Chef Thomas Kammeier has created an exceptional menu of international haute cuisine, using authentic flavours and a wealth of local ingredients. The restaurant itself is a warm palette of black and gold tones, with striking art adorning the walls.

We were suitable impressed upon arrival and waited in great anticipation of our meal and what was to come!

“These are dishes evidently full of the passion of their creator”

R32;We opted for the set menu, the Desgustations Menu that also came with wine pairing.

Our first course consisted of North Sea shrimp and Prunier caviar served with a cracker, buttermilk, dill and lemon. The presentation was exceptional. This course was accompanied by a glass of Krug Grande Cuvée.

For our second course we enjoyed warm marinated scallops served with asparagus and apricot and orange flavours. The scallops were accompanied by a glass of 2001 Riesling Alte Reben, Markus Molitor, Mosel.

We them moved on to porcini cannellone with beetroot, which was simply beautiful. The delicate earthy flavours of the mushroom and beetroot complimented each other perfectly. This was served with both a glass of the 2010 Macizo from Catalunya and the 2012 Underwater Wine from Lamershoek.

Our fourth course consisted of glazed goose liver served with Pattaya mango sorbet and compote. The goose liver with served with a 2008 Traminer Auselese, Weingut Sigler, Baden.

Up next was my favourite dish – the saddle of Muritz lamb and liver with pumpkin and pomegranate. Again, the presentation of this dish was impeccable with the colours rendering it almost too good to eat! This was accompanied by a glass of the 2011 Merlot from the Grobe Reserve, Weignut, Aldiner, Württemberg.

We then enjoyed a raw milk cheese from the trolley, before finishing the meal with petits fours and friandises.

The food at Hugos speaks for itself. These are dishes evidently full of the passion of their creator and you can almost taste the level of skill put into creating them. We were very impressed by both the food and the service at Hugos; both were of a very high standard. We would thoroughly recommend checking out Hugos if you find yourself in Berlin. We will certainly look forward to returning during our next visit!
