Whilst staying at Chateau Rhianfa in Anglesey we decided to experience their afternoon tea. After much debate on where to sit due to this hotel’s vast selection of seating, we decided to reside in their drawing room, which overlooks the surrounding grounds with Menai Strait completing the beautiful landscape.

When settling down for afternoon tea at Château Rhianfa you never feel overlooked, the tables are planned carefully and sparingly, which allows you to really relax and enjoy your afternoon tea experience without onlookers or loud conversation.

We decided to go for the champagne afternoon tea offering, and so our experience began with a wonderful glass of the Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé. With beautiful red berry aromas and a wonderful colour, this rosé champagne really did hit the spot and set us up perfectly for what was to come.

Our culinary experience began with a selection of finger sandwiches, which included cucumber and dill butter, rare sirloin of beef with horseradish, mature cheddar with tomato chutney, and smoked salmon and chive cream cheese. These sandwiches were beautifully presented and wonderfully uniform, with the real highlight being the rare sirloin of beef sandwiches, which were extremely tasty.

“Of course our afternoon tea would not be complete without tasting their delicious Welsh cakes which were truly scrumptious.”

Up next, we moved on to warm freshly baked fruit scones, complete with clotted cream and a deliciously rich homemade jam. The scones are always my favourite element of an afternoon tea and these certainly didn’t disappoint. They were large, with a hard outer and a softer middle that perfectly supported the delicious clotted cream and homemade jam. We then moved on to our selection of sweet treats which included Belgian chocolate fondue with homemade marshmallow, carrot cake with a cream cheese icing, and chocolate brownies. Of course our afternoon tea would not be complete without tasting their delicious Welsh cakes which were truly scrumptious.

For our tea choices, I opted for the English Breakfast tea which was most enjoyable and perfectly brewed. My partner opted for their Jasmine tea, which was once again and great choice and completed our experience wonderfully.

The service throughout the afternoon was prompt and friendly, and we were left wanting for nothing. Even if you’re not staying in the hotel then we would recommend a visit to Chateau Rhianfa even just to experience their afternoon tea and get a taste of this beautiful property.
