The Print Room restaurant is located in the older wing of hotel itself. Although it has inevitably been renovated over the years the majority of this wing has remained in it's original condition. This in our opinion added greatly to our visit and made our dining experience a great one.

One of the best aspects to the Print Room restaurant for us was the option to dine among the traditional décor. We were treated to pre dinner drinks in the beautifully furnished drawing room. Original oil paintings hung from the walls, the huge bay windows faced out onto the 300 acres of land around the hotel was an added bonus. The hefty leather chairs and carved tables were all in keeping with the period look of the room which we thought was delightful. A pleasant start to our evening.

“The Matfen Hall restaurant comes highly recommended for those wanting to experience fine dining with a twist”

For starters I enjoyed the Jerusalem and artichoke veloute. This came with a truffle and chive crème fraiche. My partner opted for the roast beetroot and goats cheese salad. For the main course the Tornadoes of regionally sourced beef with bone marrow crust made for a decadently rich and aromatic meal. Especially with the panacalty cake, braised leeks and the renowned Matfen magic ale sauce.

For those with some room left there is a choice of the rich and delightful sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. Or Dark chocolate fondant with Pistachio ice cream and chocolate sauce.

The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming throughout the evening - yet another aspect to the restaurant that will encourage guests to return time after time. The Matfen Hall restaurant comes highly recommended for those wanting to experience fine dining with a twist.
