First impressions of the London hotel in New York were positive from the moment we walked in. The concierge opened the door for us, gave us a smile and welcomed us to the hotel. The small lobby ran like an oiled machine. Even though there wasn’t much space, the staff were getting the guests processed very quickly so it didn’t feel crowded.

The London is ideally located on West 54th Street, between 6th and 7th Ave. It is within walking distance of Central Park, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, Radio City Music Hall, the Rockefeller Centre, and most other tourist attractions around the area.

The décor is modern throughout, and exceptionally clean and tidy. It feels like a 5 star hotel. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful to a fault. We asked questions of the reception staff, concierge and waiter, and they all answered fully and professionally. This is one of the benchmarks we use when grading hotels, and The London passed with flying colours.

The room continued that 5 star feeling. It was big, especially for New York, complete with a living area with cream leather corner sofa, electric curtains, and a huge walk-in wardrobe. This is a clean, modern room and I feel like I'm in a nice hotel.

The bathroom was equally well appointed with a large bath and decent shower. Everything looked clean, everything worked, the bed was very comfortable and we were able to relax away from the frenetic city after a long day sightseeing and shopping.

All rooms in this hotel are suites, but the rates don't really reflect that. They would normally be much more than the £160 per night we paid. Having said that, if you don't book directly, they do try and put you in a smaller room, as I found out on my second visit here.

The breakfast area was housed in the Gordon Ramsay restaurant, there was a great continental breakfast which was self-service. There was also hot food to order if you didn’t see anything you liked. Breakfast for 2 would cost you around $50 if it's not already included in your stay.

Overall The London is a 5 star hotel without the fuss. It’s simple, straightforward, but you’re looked after and treated well. I would definitely stay here again.
