Koi Soho is situated inside the Trump Soho hotel. This restaurant is not big in size, which makes for a fairly intimate dining experience. The décor is fairly modern and luxurious, as you would expect from a Trump establishment, and the low level lighting makes for a relaxed atmosphere.

The Koi restaurant takes influence from traditional Japanese dishes, bringing them up-to-date with modern twists. The menu is impressive, and as soon as we saw it, we could not wait to sample the food.

“Koi is well worth a visit for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine."

We opted to try a selection of dishes to start, including the miso soup, the Koi crispy rice with spicy tuna, the Kobe style Potstickers with a spicy soy vinaigrette dipping sauce, and some traditional sushi – a California roll and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was delicious. All the flavours were so fresh and each element complimented the next impeccably. Whilst eating these dishes, we were transported to the heart of Japan.

For our main courses, we opted for the Kobe style filet mignon with “Toban-Yaki” asparagus and mushrooms, as well as the grilled lamb chopes with roasted shishito, potato puree and ichimi sauce. Of course, no Japanese meal for us would be complete without a side of edamame beans, so we opted for a side of those to accompany our main courses. Again, the food was delicious.

Finally, we shared dessert – the vanilla, passion fruit and green tea Japanese mocha, which were also superb.

Whilst at Koi, we sampled a couple of cocktails, including the “Pear”adise Martini and then Lychee Martini. Both of which were delicious, however we were a little disappointed with the cocktail selection, which we believe could be improved.

That being said, the lack of cocktail choice did not spoil what was a lovely evening. Koi is well worth a visit for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine. It comes highly recommended by us.
